kissing strangers

year 1 – Surfer Girl

I was born and raised on the Canadian prairies and always dreamed of surfing but living in the middle of a continent with no ocean to be found was definitely NOT helping, and so I moved to Vancouver. I knew you couldn’t surf there but thought that being closer to the ocean I’d finally get the chance to live the surf life I’d been dreaming of. Well surf I did – and I loved it – but it was still too much of a trip to get to a break. Two years, many life experiences, a love of snowboarding, and some great friends later I packed up my stuff and headed over to Australia.

Arriving pretty much broke I’ve spent the past two month living in the City of Melbourne with Candice one of my best friends from way back when and her fiancee Eden and alternating between working and bumming around on their super comfy couches watching Australian TV and trying things like Vegemite. Which I’ve discovered is quite nice on toast with butter and cheese.

Last weekend I finally had the chance to go down to Torquay and hit the waves for the first time, hell it was the first time I set foot in the ocean since I got here – now I can’t stop thinking about it. I still have a year, maybe two, to find a beach to call home and master the waves and I can’t wait. This is the story of my transformation from Prairie Girl to Surfer Girl and all the adventures along the way.
