kissing strangers

walking in the rain

The Christmas party was fun but nothing remarkable happened, nothing for the gossips at work anyways. We started off with dinner and drinks across the road from work then took a taxi to the Docklands except our taxi driver was useless and dropped us off at the wrong place so we had to walk quite a ways in the rain to get to our party.

It was good free beer, wine, and champagne and started off with crappy music while they served food and around about 10pm they started playing actual music. The DJ seemed to think that because people responded well to the old songs he played that was all he should play and I mean it is fun to dance to the oldies but when it’s one after the other after the other..  it gets old. So I went and set him straight and thank god he started playing some new music which people loved and he never went back to the oldies after that.

So we danced and drank and someone kept spilling their drinks and breaking their wine glasses – she was entertaining anyways. We went and got some shots at the bar next door but weren’t sure what to have so we asked the bartender and he recommended the ‘wet pussy.’ Oh I’ve never had a wet pussy before I said…  I thought it was funny anyways, but the shot wasn’t very good.

I think the party went on pretty late as I got a message from Jenny around 2:30 saying they were still there but I took off sometime around 1. I was a little concerned about getting home and didn’t want to take a taxi so I wanted to make sure I caught the train to Newport before they stopped running.

I was pretty drenched by the time I got to Southern Cross Station because it was raining and it was a bit of a trek from the Docklands. While I was waiting for the train this guy started talking to me and ended up sitting with me on the train. I told him I had a boyfriend in Brisbane and that I was just working here till Christmas and then going back up. It didn’t stop the guy from trying to get my number though and telling me he could get me a job at the Casino where he worked.

Finally we got to Newport which isn’t my station but Willie Beach was only two stops away and I’d walked from North Williamstown home so I thought one extra station would be no big deal. So despite the torrential downpour I was on a mission I had decided I could walk home from Newport and I was going to do it – nothing could stop me.

Too bad I didn’t really know where I was going and even worse was when I turned around from my original direction to go back to the train station and walk along the other side of the tracks. Thing is Newport is where the tracks split and you can either go south to Werribee or east to Williamstown, I crossed the tracks and without realizing it had started following the Werribee line. So I was walking and walking and walking and wet and cold and kept switching between ‘what the hell am I doing?!’ to ‘I’ll be fine – I’m gonna make it’ but after a while I seemed to be in the middle of nowhere and I kinda started freaking out because it was then that I realized I was probably on my way to Werribee. I was throuroughly saturated and cold and I thought of all the ground I’d covered to get where I was and what a long walk back to Newport it would be and I thought I was going to die of hypothermia.

Then there was hope in the form of a van coming down the road I got pretty excited and thought about asking for directions but I hesitated and it drove it past. Then I saw it turn around and I booked it running towards the van it seemed like my last chance to get home. The guy said he saw me walking soaking wet in the middle of nowhere and he had to at least try and help so when he offered to drive me home I didn’t even hesitate and jumped in.

I must’ve looked like a drowned rat but was happy he took pity on me and started bawling and going on about what an idiot I was.  He didn’t really know where he was going so I directed him the best I could and eventually we found home. I had him drop me off a street away so he wouldn’t know where I lived just in case. Once I was safely inside and the door was locked I started crying about what an idiot I’d been and how I could’ve died of hypothermia or he could’ve been a rapist or a killer. Then as I was going to bed I got a message from Jenny asking if I’d gotten home ok – considering what I’d just been through to get home it seemed like the most amazingly kind considerate gesture and I was so appreciative of her concern. It really warmed my heart and made me think I should’ve just stayed out because they were still out there partying it up.

The next day was Jonathan’s 21st and we celebrated with a BBQ at Eden’s mom’s house. I was feeling pretty rough and after checking my emails spent most of the morning in bed. Finally around 2 I had to drag myself out of bed to catch the train to Sunbury, unfortunately  my shoes were still saturated from walking in the rain for the better part of two hours the night before so I had to wear flip flops – to the farm. But I caught the train out with no problems and without my feet getting too cold and by the time I got to Christine’s I felt like I might be ready for a beer.

The BBQ was great except that for some reason the BBQ wouldn’t work so we had to make the burgers and sausages inside but they still tasted good. Then there was potato salad, cheese and crackers, chips, and two cakes! Yum. But I ate so much I felt kind of sick and so when everyone decided to go out to a pub in Sunbury I didn’t think I would be up for it and was going to go home with Candice.

With some encouragement from Luke and Joe and Lily by the time we rocked up to the pub I decided I would go out, I still kind of wanted to go home and go to sleep because I was tired but I was gonna be a trooper. The pub was a bit of a dag but we had a good time, played some pokies and some pool and put on the jukebox and we closed the place down.

We tried to get into another pub afterwards but Jonathan didn’t have his ID and they wouldn’t let him in so we all ended up going back to Candice’s and Eden’s and played poker for the rest of the night. The game ended up going until 5am with Eden taking the money.

Sunday I hung out at Candice’s house we bought and put up their first Christmas tree [which looks beautiful] and then went out to see the movie Twilight which I really enjoyed before getting dropped off at home. Another busy weekend and another monday rolls around that I could just sleep through if given the chance.

Well today is the big day – the company Christmas party. We’ve got dinner reservations and everyone has their dresses and makeup to get ready after work. It’s all very exciting.

This morning I was talking with Nick [one of the supervisors of the Accounts Dept] and his parents used to live in Winnipeg(!) which I thought was pretty awesome. Most people I’ve met in Australia have never heard of Winnipeg let alone lived there. We talked about White Christmases and Hot Christmases and how nothing compares to the magic of a White Christmas. I’m glad it’sa Hot Christmas because I think a White Christmas without my family would be sad because that’s what Christmas is to me, but I think a Hot Christmas will be just fine spent in a hostel on the beach surfing because I have no memories or expectations of what it should be like. So take heart Mom – it’s gonna be great!

Yesterday was a beautiful day finally warm and sunny so I decided to go for a walk in the evening. After wandering around by the beach and through Willy (Williamstown) I stopped off at Coles where I found screw top lunch containers!! I know it’s pretty lame to be writing about lunch containers but they’re my favourite kind and I’ve missed having them so I found it very exciting.

Work has been quite great this week, the girls are really awesome and it’s good to be back. They all seemed to really miss me and are quite glad to have me back.  I might be asked back after Christmas and while I would love to continue working with the girls I don’t know if I could stand being stuck in Melbourne again, plus the fact that I would have to drive down from the Gold Coast makes me unsure of wether or not I’ll be back. Maybe if they could guarantee me at least a month of work otherwise I think I’m looking to start my fruit picking odyssey after Christmas so I can guarantee my application for a 2nd Visa. The sooner I get it out of the way the happier I’ll be.

Well until next time, I’ll probably be getting pissed with a bunch of lawyers.

It just keeps getting better…

Christmas that is. At first it was just an over rated holiday that I only get excited about because I get to go home and see my family BUT then it started to come together with my Queensland plans and the Chicken & Champagne breakfast at work. Today I was invited to attend the work Christmas Party as date to Sarah which I’m really excited about, it’s like having a real Christmas but Australian style.

So things are looking good and I’m really excited about getting back up to hot Queensland weather…  although I guess that means I’ll have to watch the Christmas weight gain. In Canada it’s ok because I mean it’s cold outside you need the extra layer of fat and you can hide it under clothes. Here I’ll probably be wearing a bikini on Xmas so I better keep some discipline in my eating habits.

–  rewind –

Candice’s wedding was amazing it was like a wedding you would see in a movie. It started the night before with all of the girls involved in the wedding sleeping over at Candice’s house with wine and cheese and a mini feast for dinner, we played Singstar and Candice had a bit too much to drink (and threw up in the morning.. oops). Then we had fruit breakfast and headed out for hair and make-up.

They had a photographer who came over and took all these cheesy photos of us getting ready and pretending to be fussing over Candice and fixing her dress and stuff. Finally when that was all over we took a limo to Ascot House where they were getting married, it’s a heritage house and they got married in the garden. After the ceremony the wedding party piled back into the limo and went out to a park to take more pictures and cheesy videos of us walking like models then turning around an posing and the like.

When we got back to the venue there was a special room for the bridal party to hang out in with cheese and crackers and hot food and drinks where we could relax until everyone was seated in the dining room and ready for us to make our entrance. Then we all got lined up with our escorts and the MC announced us ‘introducing Colleen Rempel and her escort..’ I felt like a rock star – then you walk out across the dance floor to the head table and your escort pulls the chair out for you.

First thing they did was cut the cake and then had the first dance, then they called the bridal party out. We were all a little wary about the dance and I wasn’t really sure if Luke could pull it off, but he actually really impressed me throughout the night with his dancing skills. Then Rob asked me to dance and he was looking pretty good that night, it was his birthday too so I said happy birthday [all the guys ended up going out afterwards, I wish I had too].

Then we had a fancy meal at the head table with free drinks so I had about four drinks poured at the same time at one point. There was lots of dancing between the courses of the meal and the little flower girls and page boys were the cutest. Finally it came time for the speeches and I pulled out the cheese once again but I think it went over well. It was so fun everyone was dancing and half the people were pissed and time just flew by so fast. Before you knew it we were saying goodbye to the bride & groom and you would expect the party to keep going for a while but after they were gone we had 1 more song before they kicked us out.

I was shattered, I wanted to keep going but was catching a cab with Tammy and Mitch who wanted to bail before the last song even played. I wanted to see what everyone was doing and go on partying but I ended up doing the responsible thing and went home early in the cab with Tammy and Mitch. But at least I woke up without a hangover because that night we were meeting at the casino for a night out to celebrate again.

It was a really fun night too. While I was waiting for everyone I was standing watching the wheel and I saw these guys with massive daquaries so I had to have one. You can’t come face to face with a giant daquarie and not go for it so I asked them where they bought and before I knew it I was standing at the bar sipping the biggest drink I’ve ever had in my life. It was awesome. Then once I’d emptied it walking around the Cas trying to find someone I knew it was really fun, one guy wanted to pay me money to dump it on this guy in a white suit. I didn’t want to waste the drink.

Once I finally ran into Candice and Eden and everyone we gambled for a bit and then went out to this bar that’s attached to the casino where there was a live band playing and danced the night away. At one point this guy came up to us and asked if we wanted to play a game so we’re like alright. He asked us if we knew Hamish and Andy [who are radio hosts here in Australia and they're on TV sometimes, they're super funny and super popular at the moment] and their ghosting game [which is where you walk behind someone as close as you can get without them noticing] because the game was you dance up behind someone really close until they notice you.

It was a bit of a laugh and we had fun. Yep it was a good night. Got home around 5:00 in the morning and then Clinton and I sat around having a drink and we heard a weird noise and he had me convinced that some bum had gotten into the house so we went downstairs and started looking in the rooms [I was brandishing a toy scooter at this point] for this guy and at the last room he goes in and then jumps out to try and scare me, and then takes the piss because I fell for it.

He’d gone back to Perth by the time I woke up and later that day Tammy and Mitch flew off back to Canada. I went out for lunch with Candice’s Perth friends as agreed the previous evening and then pretty chilled out for the rest of the night and was in bed early so I could get to work in the morning.

Well the past week in Melbourne has been pretty busy what with all the preparation for the wedding, hen’s nights, the wedding itself, and the general party mood of the following weekend. I made it through but am much worse for wear. I feel like I could sleep for a week, but instead I had to get up bright and early Monday morning and go to work.

Yep that’s right I have my job at Slater & Gordon back. While it interfered with my plans to get back to Brisbane it is definitely good to be working again and have money coming in because I really need it. It’s really good to be back and all the girls were really happy to see me so it felt really good BUT at the same time I’ve been feeling like I need to get out of Melbourne.

It’s a great city and Candice and everyone is here but I’ve done Melbourne, I’ve spent the better part of 4 months here and the climate doesn’t really agree with me. I know I’m welcome at the big Campbell-Basisty family Christmas but I don’t know if I’m really up for sitting in on another family’s Christmas. The only reason I get excited about Christmas these days is because I always got to go home and see the family and it might be kind of depressing.

Since I’m in Australia and it’s going to be hot and I’ll be family-less I thought I kinda want to spend it on the beach and go surfing, do something I love and came here for. So I talked to Glen and after work is done on the 23rd I’ll fly up to Brissie on Christmas Eve day, pick up the car, hopefully buy a board and spend my time on the Gold Coast somewhere [location yet to be determined by hostel availability] then head back to Brissie for Cricket on Boxing Day. It sounds like the perfect holiday to me, just what I’d imagine Christmas in Australia to be.

Now I’m really excited about Christmas again AND I’ll still get a Christmas dinner because at work, the last friday before Christmas we are having a Chris Kringle and Chicken & Champagne Breakfast so I’m stoked.

More on Candice’s wedding coming soon.

Emirate Stakes Day

Saturday was Emirates Stakes Day at Melbourne’s Spring Racing Carnival and thanks to Trish & Brian I got a heavily subsidized ticket to the Members Only Panorama Flat I think it was. Basically we were in the most expensive section that was the highest up with the best views of everything except maybe the horses.. but only because they were so small from where we were sitting.

It was a great day -  Candice Eden and I were all up early to get ready and be at his dad’s house by 11 for a few drinks before catching a Limo to Flemington Race Course. That’s right a Limo. I was stoked. First time in a limo – and I got to drink classy champagne to boot, because Brian only drinks the best. The limo even had a mirror on the ceiling, I was really impressed.

We pulled up to Flemington and went through the gates, and went up and up and up until we couldn’t go any further. No crowds, no expensive hot dogs and drinks for me, I love members only. It was beautiful. We had a great three course lunch (although desert left something to be desired) and afternoon tea and all the wine and beer you could drink.

We bet on some horses, I didn’t really win anything, but it was fun anyway, then went down to the lower areas to check out where the action happens. We stopped at the Champagne Bar and then went out to see the horses up close for the next race. We didn’t get that close but it was still kind of fun to be out in the crowds on the ground, but I was glad to go back up to our area at the end of it.

I might have had a little too much to drink and after getting back to Brians house and eating I was feeling pretty out of it so I just crashed on the couch and watched Sex and the City until well after everyone went to bed. Then was up again at six in the morning – I was not impressed. But Trish had arranged a big brekkie so I got to munch down on eggs and toast and bacon and a cappuccino from their cool cappucino machine that Trish showed me how to use but when it came to making my second one I couldn’t really remember and pretty much overflowed my coffee. Oops.

After brekkie we went home, I packed as I was flying to Gold Coast at 6pm, which I was excited for but at the same time kinda just wanted to sleep in my own bed that night. Candice was saying earlier something about Jetstar being shitty and that she wouldn’t fly overseas with them because they always delay everything and me and Eden said we wouldn’t care as long as it was cheap. BUT then when I went to drop off my bags at the Jetstar counter for my flight I realized it is terrible, you check in then stand in the line and it doesn’t even matter, because they didn’t go through the line. They just called all passengers for this flight come drop off your bags, and you’re just standing in line for nothing. It’s bullshit. At least now I know for next time – don’t bother showing up early.

The flight was fine and I got into the Gold Coast at 7pm except it was dark when I got here – disappointing. I wasn’t sure about my plan to walk to the hostel after all, but in the end decided to go for it and despite the fact that I didn’t really follow the directions I’d printed up, I found the hostel quite easily in no time at all, it was literally a ten minute walk from the airport. I was happy. Except you can hear the planes all night long. Super.

Which wasn’t as bad as the fact that our room is beside the pool and people were loudly playing music and talking and splashing in the pool all night long. I was tired and wanted to sleep.

I went for a walk around last night down to the beach which you couldn’t really see, and trying to find somewhere to get some food but the hostel is pretty much in the middle of nowhere and the most happening place is the airport. So after walking around trying to find some vestage of life I decided to hit up the airport because I’d seen some cafes and stuff there – except by the time I got there everything was closed. So I had to settle with a meat pie from a petrol station. Yum.

Not the greatest weather today, my original plan was to go out surfing but considering the fact that I need groceries I’ve booked myself onto the free shuttle into Cooly to pick up some essentials and check out the city and the beaches see what I can see. Hopefully tomorrow will be good for surfing. I just can’t wait until I have a car and can do stuff on my own terms.

A Night in the City

In celebration of my birthday Wednesday night, Candice, Ang, and I went out into the City on Friday night. We started by having a few drinks and Eden’s dad’s house as they were away for the weekend and it’s closer to the City.

We took the train into the City and took so many pictures on the way in that my camera almost as soon as we got to the first club. We got off the train and pretty much ran to the first place we could find b/c someone really had to use the loo, it was a pretty happening place so we stayed and had some drinks and danced to the live band it was really fun. Before long we were off to find this hip hop club Eden had told Candice about so we walked around the alleys and lanes of the city until we found DeBiers.

We got in and it was pretty much empty but we ended up staying for a long time and dancing to the music which really wasn’t that much more hip hop than the last place we’d been, but it was still good. Some Aussie soldier who’d apparantly just got back from Afghanistan started chatting up Ang and bought us some drinks. Can’t compain about free drinks, we ended up staying there for a really long time considering we were the only people dancing, well and the soldier guy.

Eventually we left and Ang was hungry so we stopped at KFC to get her some chicken, except that I thought I was going into Maccas to get her some chicken which seemed weird to me, and I was standing waiting in line for some chickin telling everyone that I thought I was at McDonalds. There was a guy playing the didgeridoo on the sidewalk so we danced along for a while then continued on our way to the Cas. This guy started talking to us on the sidewalk outside of Flinders asking us where we were from so I told him I was from Melbin, but he didn’t believe me then he started razzing me about my accent and I wasn’t having any of it so I took off on my way to the Casino – but decided I should probably wait for Candice and Ang so I sat down on a bench beside the Yarra and was pretty impressed with the view.

Then we ran into this guy who was busking and sang along with him for a couple songs, and there were these three guys in suits who were listening and one of them joined in the singing. We walked with the suits to the Cas but went our separate ways because they were going gambling and we were going clubbing but not before we stopped for a grilled cheese sandwhich at a cafe on the way. They had these giant wine bottles on display that we tried to guess how many litres they held and tried to buy one but turns out they were empty.

After our feed we continued on to the clubs and ended up at Odeon which had just reopened, we got some vodka’s and redbull and they had a live band playing so we danced along. At this point I was starting to be over the clubbing and kept running off to get water, I like dancing but can only take so much of the clubs, I’m much more of a bar or pub person. Candice met this guy when she went to get water and brought over – for me it seemed like – so I got up and danced with him for a bit but wasn’t feeling it, or him for that matter.

It wasn’t too much longer before we left the bar and went to get a late night feed before catching a cab home. By this time it was about 4:30 in the morning, where did the time go? I had no idea it was that late. Ang dropped her chicken on the ground and was pretty upset about it and then we met this guy in the taxi line who offered to go and get her a new one, he was pretty.. I don’t know but we think he might have been on drugs, too much energy. He also told us that he’d won $4000 and he didn’t know what to spend it on. I mean really is it that hard? I know what I’d do with four grand.

We crashed out pretty much as soon as we got home, then unfortunately I was up again around 8:30am with a bit of a hangover. I lay in bed for a while trying to get back to sleep but when I realized it probably wasn’t going to happen I got up and put on my bathing suit and planned to go for a swim. Candice was up when I went to get some brekkie and we sat there watching TV for a while, then instead of going swimming I went back to bed. Poor Candice didn’t get back to sleep. After I woke up again we went to the beach to sun ourselves for a bit before cleaning up and going home.

Now I’m back at work, which is what I thought I wanted except that now that I’m here, I don’t really want to be. I was prepared for friday to be the end, I made car and board shopping plans and wanted to hit up the coast and go surfing – I was reading surfing mags all day yesterday. I’m still not sure if they want me here just for today or all week, it feels like it was kind of just a pity come back in because I kind of made a big deal out of leaving on friday.

I was really worried about turning 25 – a quarter of a century – it seemed too old. Now I think it’s going to be a really great year. So far I had a Mexican dinner party, played Singstar (which I was going to do again today but can’t figure out how to turn on the new Xbox), might have found an awesome hat for the races, got a haircut then managed to catch a train straight away which got me into the station by 6:20 and I really wanted a bottle of wine because hey it’s till my birthday in Canada I need to keep on celebrating, but I didn’t want to wait half an hour if I missed the bus. I decided to get the wine BUT I managed to make it to the bus stop in time to catch the bus. I was stoked.

My job seems to be wrapping up which is good and bad. Good because I’ll be able to get out surfing a lot more, maybe even move down to the coast for a bit and bad because I won’t have money coming in and if I buy a car and a board I’ll be pretty much broke. And it’ll be sad to leave the girls at work, they’re pretty cool, and I just figured out the secret to using the toilet without having to get buzzed back in to the office. Just when I get the job sorted, it’s over.

I’m so excited about everything ahead of me – surfing, driving around the country, surfing, going to Brissie, Perth, Sydney, everywhere, Candice’s wedding, all the adventures and new people I’ll meet. I can’t wait. Twenty five is gonna be epic.

.. back to Torquay

I just can’t stay away from the waves and so today after work I’m hopping the train down to Torquay so I can spend the weekend SURFING and hanging out with backpackers at a hostel. My first hostel stay in Australia and while I’m really not planning on partying it up you never really can tell what will happen when thrown in with a bunch of backpackers.

Also I hate Melbourne trains and I hate being a train commuter and I can’t wait to be finished this job just so I no longer have to travel at peak hours. It’s always crowded, late, or late and crowded and I just can’t take it anymore. I also don’t get how people in MX always see hotties on the train all I ever get is weirdos or smelly people – gross.

It’s racing carnival time in Melbourne. I’ve never been to horse races before and for the Melbourne races you get dressed to the nines and don hats and fascinators and go out in class. My first time at the races will be exceptionally classy as Eden’s dad got us tickets to the members only section where we will be served a 3-course meal and all booze is included in the ticket (which set me back almost $200) but considering what you normally pay to get into races, plus drinks I figure I’m pretty much coming out even. Who knows I may even be able to start going for one of my goals for Australia – namely marry rich Australian to stay in the country and not have to worry about work.

When considering my other Australia goals include being really tanned, getting sunbleached hair, living on a beach and surfing every day and working on a sheep farm – it seems a bit out there. And while it was mostly a joke I wouldn’t put it past myself to up and do something like that.

So there you go, that’s pretty much the word on the street lately. I’m totally stoked about surfing this weekend.

[Dated Oct 9, 2008]

Today I had my first Vegemite – although officially I did try it once in NZ (or it might have been Marmite) but I basically stuck my finger in and licked it off.. it was no good. THIS time they were having Vegemite & Cheese on Cruskits (some kind of cracker thing with a texture that kind of reminded me of those yellow puff cheesielike snacks from back in the day) and after finding out I’d never tried Vegemite before they made me eat one..  and it was suprisingly good. As I said to them I’d eat it again.

Step One towards Australianization completed. Or maybe that’s step two as I’ve also got a newfound enjoyment of Lamb. Oh AND I’ve got a footy team so maybe that’s step three or maybe it doesn’t count officially until I get myself a scarf.

Speaking of Australian things daylight savings time started this past Sunday and as we cruised around town on my grand tour of St. Kilda, Chapel Street, and other places of note around Melbourne, Eden told me that apparantly in Perth they don’t want daylight savings and they were having a three year trial and next year they are doing a vote to see if they will keep it or not. Some of the top reasons they were against it included curtains fading too quickly due to extra sunlight and something about cows not producing as much milk. Weird. Only in WA* I guess.

guess who’s coming to dinner
October 3, 2008, 9:41 pm
Filed under: Living & Working Abroad, Melbourne Adventures

Glen is/was in town for a couple days after working up in Shepparton and yesterday we met up with him for dinner and drinks! It was great seeing him again, he’s a real good guy and lots of fun – we went swimming in the fountain at the Leg on Canada Day, I’ll never forget that – and because of it he’s defenitely in my good books. We met up at this backpacker bar that I’d been to once before. We were supposed to meet at 5:30 and as I work in the City I was the first one there, I knew Candice and Eden would be late having to drive in but I thought Glen would be there at least. After about 15 minutes sitting in a mostly empty bar I gave him a call and it turns out he’d gone the wrong way down Flinders Street and was down past the MCG! Anyway I sorted him out and played some Pacman, and it was about this point when the other two people in the bar left and it was me and the bartender.

She told me it’s usually busier and there’s this group of guys from the hostel who are usually drinking there but TODAY there was supposed to be a big group of about 150 girls checking in to the hostel so the guys were sitting around in the hostel waiting – and I was the sole patron of the bar. Then the bartender left to use the toilet and I was the only person in the bar. At least I had my $4 pint of beer – which tasted pretty terrible. Finally at about 6 they all rocked up and we had a drink before heading over to the Cas to look for somewhere to eat.

There’s just something about the Cas I don’t know exactly what it is – maybe because it’s always open and no matter what happens you know you can go there any time of day to eat, drink, shop even, or just go bowling at the Electric .. Circus (I want to say but I don’t think that’s what it’s actually called). The Cas has got it all, it’s a great place to start or end your night or just waste some time. Anyway we went there and didn’t gamble and didn’t meet any boys but the Pub we were at had a breathalyzer test in the toilets and I thought that was pretty damn cool. But you had to pay for it, not so cool.

It started to get kind of late and Eden wanted to go home to bed as he had to work early and so we parted ways. I told Glen I’d defenitely get up to Brissie before the wedding and I’ll go for a ride on his cousins Catamaran and he told me he’d go surfing with me. So I can’t wait!! Also he was stunned that I hadn’t gone out and gone for a surf yet and I know – me too. So I’ve been thinking today and my original plan was to head up to Sydney after this job is over (which is either today or sometime next week – I don’t know yet) BUT I think I’m gonna try and head down to Torquay again, see if I can’t get a job there and maybe stay there until Melb Cup after which I’ll head up to Sydney to visit Belinda and then over to Brissie.

All in all a good night. Then I had to work today, that’s kind of painful, it’s not that they don’t have things for me to do it’s that they are too busy to show me how to do them so I end up with these mindless easy tasks that in reality would take me half an hour to an hour sometimes but which I drag out for as long as I possibly can because when I finish and need something new to do – it’s always ‘oh – face scrunch – can you give me five minutes and I twiddle my thumbs until they figure out what to do with me next. Like right now, I’m completely done but my supervisor not here and so I sit here messing around and then retyping the same figures when someone walks past. Fun. But I’m still getting paid for it so can’t complain.

This morning someone had made plunger coffee and I’ve been eager to try it as I don’t really know how to make it this was the perfect opportunity but I have to say it didn’t really do it for me. I haven’t had a good cup of coffee since I got here, sure I’ve done the Flat White, Short Black, Espresso, Plunger Coffee everything and it just doesn’t beat my good old double double. The one time I found an actual cup of joe it was from Starbucks where the coffee is always way too strong anyway and this one tasted like it had been sitting there since they opened in the morning (it was about 1 in the afternoon at this point) – so yum.

The current office craze is the Bubble Shooter Game all lunch hour everyone sits around and plays this game. My first day I thought what a bunch of lamos sitting around playing games when they could be going outside and doing something. Then they introduced me to the game and I too spend a large chunk of my lunch hour sitting around shooting bubbles. One day I played straight through lunch and when I’m trying to waste time I stealthily play between periods of traffic past my desk. Yes it’s lame but it’s so addicting.
